This will be the second introduction to Chiba Prefecture after Disneyland!

In addition to Chiba California, we will also introduce Aqualine, an undersea tunnel, and a large outlet that you can stop by on your way home, so please read to the end!

What is Chiba California?

ChibaCalifornia is a region in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, especially along the coast. The name is based on the image of the U.S. state of California, evoking a resort and beach culture. In particular, surfing and swimming are popular here, as are beautiful beaches and a mild climate.

ChibaFornia is especially known for the Kujukuri-hama and Boso Peninsula areas, which attract many tourists. It also offers a relaxing atmosphere with a wide variety of local restaurants and stores. It has become a popular spot for those who enjoy surfing and beach barbecues.

Of course, it is also a popular spot for car enthusiasts, and is crowded with people taking pictures of their cars on weekends and holidays!

Chiba Fornia Location

  • From the direction of Tokyo: Take the Keiyo Road via the Metropolitan Expressway Wangan Route. Take the Chiba-Togane Road in the direction of Chiba City.
  • From Kanagawa: From Yokohama-Yokosuka Road, take the Yokohama-Machida Interchange to the Ken-O Expressway and head toward Chiba.

What are undersea tunnels and Aqualine?

Aqualine (formally Tokyo Bay Aqualine) is a road connecting Kawasaki City, Tokyo, and Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture. It consists of an undersea tunnel and an elevated bridge, and is an important transportation route across Tokyo Bay.

  1. Length: Approximately 15.1 km (the tunnel portion is approximately 9.6 km).
  2. Tunnel: Undersea tunnel through Tokyo Bay, located in the center of the road.
  3. Elevated bridge: After exiting the tunnel, an elevated bridge running over the sea continues.

Access

The Aqualine provides smooth access from the Tokyo area to the Chiba area, and is especially convenient for travel to sightseeing spots and seaside recreation spots.

Sightseeing spots

Umihotaru Parking Area: Located halfway along the Aqua-Line, this rest facility offers a beautiful view of Tokyo Bay from its observation deck. There are also a variety of restaurants and stores.

The Aqua-Line is prone to traffic congestion at certain times of the day, so it is recommended that you allow plenty of time for your visit.

Umihotaru Service Area

Umihotaru is an artificial island located in the middle of the Tokyo Bay Aqualine, mainly for rest and sightseeing. Because of its location at sea, it is a spot where visitors can enjoy beautiful views of Tokyo Bay.

Umihotaru is a convenient spot to stop by during a drive or trip and is a great place to experience the attractions of Tokyo Bay.

Mitsui Outlet Park Kisarazu

Mitsui Outlet Park Kisarazu is a large outlet mall located in Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture. Easily accessible from Umihotaru on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line, it is a popular spot for people enjoying sightseeing and shopping.

Access

  • Car: Take the Aqualine and get off at Kisarazu Kanada Interchange.
  • Train: The nearest station is JR Kisarazu Station, and buses are available from the station.

Mitsui Outlet Park Kisarazu is an attractive place to visit not only for shopping but also in combination with other tourist attractions in the area.
