Shiramizu River Road

Have you ever wanted to photograph your car in the water? If you are a car lover, you have probably thought so at least once. This time, we would like to specially introduce you to a rare place in the world where you can drive your car into a river.

(Japan, 76-12 Kawahira, Uchigo Hakusui-machi, Iwaki-shi, Fukushima 973-8405)

It is located in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, a 2.5 hour drive from Tokyo (Shibuya Ward). Although this may be a bit of a hurdle for first-time visitors to Japan, we highly recommend it for those who are tired of the usual spots. However, be careful not to scrape your bottom when entering the river, as there are large steps!

Those who come for the first time will surely get lost. (I got lost too).

Basically, you can follow google map, but this is the only intersection that is confusing, so let’s keep it in mind.

root guide

Bandai-Asahi National Park, Nishi-Azuma Sky Valley

It would be a shame to come all the way to Fukushima Prefecture and visit only one place. After photographing your car at the river, drive home through the mountain pass. The Nishi-Azuma Sky Valley is a great driveway for a drive. There are several rest stops along the way, so you can take pictures of your car against the backdrop of the natural mountains. You will never be able to take pictures of your car in the city, so you can be sure that your car will be delighted with the view.

Along the way, you can also see steep sections of the mountain and feel the power of nature. It might be a good idea to keep your windows closed, as mountain gases may be present.

A specialty of Kitakata City, Fukushima Prefecture! Try the Kitakata Ramen!

Uende Kitakata, 4488-1 Kamikawamukata, Kitakata, Fukushima 966-0811, Japan

This light, clear soy sauce broth with firm noodles. The more seasoned ramen fans will understand how good it tastes.

I highly recommend it to those who are tired of eating Japanese ramen! (I doubt there are many people who are tired of eating Japanese ramen, though…)

The interior of the restaurant is very clean, and of course there is a parking lot. The ramen was very tasty and I would definitely go back from Tokyo to try it again.

Gelato at Michi no Eki Urabandai at the end of the trip

Minamiorensawayama-1157 Hibara, Kitashiobara, Yama District, Fukushima 966-0401

The perfect roadside station (in Japanese, Michino-eki) to relieve the fatigue of a day’s drive. Since it is summer, you can look back on your trip over a gelato. There is a wide variety of gelato, with two different flavors to choose from, so you can enjoy a luxurious feeling. Gelato tastes many times better when eaten while looking at your car.

Summary

So, that was all for the introduction of Fukushima Prefecture’s driving spots. If you go a little further from Tokyo, you can drive in such a nice place! We will continue to introduce more driving spots in Japan, so stay tuned!
