How to Access Gunma from Tokyo?
The best way to reach Gunma Prefecture from Tokyo is by car via the expressways. Here is a detailed guide from Tokyo Station to Gunma’s main attractions.
Start by heading to the Kan-etsu Expressway
From Tokyo Station, drive to the Oizumi JTC on the Kan-etsu Expressway via the Shuto Expressway. There is also a way to get there by general road. This takes approximately 40 minutes. If you are coming from Shinjuku Station, it will take about 30 minutes. Be cautious at expressway entrances to avoid accidentally heading onto general road.
Drive North on the Kan-etsu Expressway
Enter the Kan-etsu Expressway at Oizumi JTC and head toward Gunma Prefecture.
It takes about 50 minutes by car to reach Fujioka JTC. (Whether to go straight there or take another expressway depends on your destination.)
- For Tomioka Silk Mill and Megane Bridge, take the Joshin-etsu Expressway at “Fujioka JCT” and exit at “Tomioka IC” or “Matsuidamyogi IC.”
