You do not need to rent a car to make Japanese car culture part of your Tokyo trip. A PIT AUTOBACS SHINONOME and Liberty Walk Tokyo give you two very different shopping stops, while a passenger tour can add an evening visit to Daikoku Parking Area.
This is our suggested itinerary for exploring Tokyo’s car shops on your own. If you would also like to visit Daikoku, you can separately book a passenger tour from an independent operator through GetYourGuide. Check its stops before planning your day so you do not visit A PIT twice.
“Without a car” means you do not need your own vehicle or to drive yourself. The daytime shopping route uses public transport and walking; the optional Daikoku extension involves riding in a vehicle with a driver. Daikoku is in Yokohama, outside Tokyo.

Your One-Day Tokyo JDM Itinerary at a Glance
The table below offers ideas for arranging your own day. The third column shows how you could adjust your independent sightseeing if you separately book an external tour; it is not a package itinerary offered by us. Tour schedules and included stops are set by the operator.
| Part of the day | Independent shopping day | If separately booking an external A PIT + Daikoku tour |
| Morning | A PIT, around 10:00–11:30 | Keep the morning free |
| Late morning to early afternoon | Travel toward Harajuku and have lunch | Lunch around Harajuku |
| Early afternoon | Liberty Walk, around 13:30–14:30 | Liberty Walk, allowing time to reach your tour meeting point |
| Later in the day | Shopping, a café break and dinner | Meet the external operator at the time on your booking confirmation |
Choose Your Evening First
Before arranging the rest of your day, check whether your tour includes A PIT, how long it stops there, and where you meet and finish. If A PIT is included, leave out the separate morning visit unless you specifically want extra shopping time.
If you book an external tour, fit your independent afternoon plans around its departure. Allow time for station exits, walking and finding the meeting point. Use the meeting instructions supplied by that operator with your booking.
Morning: Explore A PIT AUTOBACS SHINONOME

For the independent version, start at A PIT in Shinonome. Our A PIT store report shows why this stop can appeal even if you have no car to buy parts for: automotive clothing, miniature cars, books and accessories are part of the experience.
Treat it as a shop to browse, rather than a museum with a fixed collection. Stock changes, and any interesting customer cars in the parking area are a bonus, not an advertised display.
We suggest allowing 60–90 minutes. If you enjoy comparing model cars or looking through books, keep the morning flexible rather than rushing to another attraction.
The official store page lists opening hours of 9:00–21:00 and a walk of approximately one minute from Shinonome Station on the Rinkai Line. The address is 2-7-20 Shinonome, Koto-ku, Tokyo. Check the official store information before visiting.
Lunch and the Journey to Harajuku
After shopping, travel toward Harajuku and have lunch. Leave this part of the day relaxed: you are moving between two areas, not stepping into the next shop on the same street.
Check a journey planner for your travel date, including the walk to Liberty Walk’s address. The suggested late-morning-to-early-afternoon block covers both travel and lunch; it is not a claim that the train journey takes two hours.
If you are joining a tour that includes A PIT, begin your car-focused sightseeing here instead. A slower morning also leaves you more energy for the evening.
Afternoon: Visit Liberty Walk Tokyo in Harajuku

Liberty Walk offers a different side of car culture: the brand, its designs and merchandise. Make this a focused browsing stop, with time afterward for the rest of Harajuku.
The official Tokyo store page lists 4-26-3 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, with opening hours of 11:30–20:00. It currently states that the shop is open year-round; check for announcements before your visit.
Allow around 30–60 minutes as a starting point. A particular display car or limited item may not be available, so visit because you enjoy the brand rather than to see one specific build.

Optional Evening: Visit Daikoku PA as a Passenger

For an optional evening activity, you can book a Daikoku PA passenger tour through GetYourGuide. We do not operate these tours. They are run by independent activity providers, whose listings explain the transport, meeting point and return arrangements.
Car gatherings are informal. The number and type of cars vary, and access restrictions can change the route. A booking should not be treated as a guarantee that a particular car will be there.
The following two external tours are also featured in our A PIT guide. They are optional activities you can book separately, rather than services included with this suggested day out. Compare the selected options on GetYourGuide before booking.
Option 1: A PIT + Daikoku PA Passenger Tour
Start with this option if your main goal is to visit the two locations with transport arranged. The combination is a natural fit for an afternoon in Harajuku followed by a tour, provided the departure time works.
Check how much time is actually allowed at A PIT and Daikoku. A brief shopping stop may suit a first look, but it may not be enough if you want to browse every shelf.
Option 2: GT-R Passenger Experience with A PIT + Daikoku PA
Consider this option if riding in a GT-R is part of the appeal, alongside visiting the stops. Before paying, check that the selected option explicitly includes a GT-R passenger ride and whether the advertised vehicle is guaranteed.
Compare the full experience, not just the headline car: pickup location, seating, time at each stop and the return arrangements all affect how well it fits your day.
What to Check Before Booking
Confirm that your selected option is a passenger experience, along with the meeting time and place, end location, total duration, shopping time, vehicle arrangements and cancellation terms. Read what happens if Daikoku is closed or the weather changes.

Prefer to Skip the Tour?
Finish with shopping, a café break or dinner around Harajuku. A PIT and Liberty Walk give the independent day a clear car-culture focus without an evening commitment.
This is also an option if the available departure times do not work for you. You do not need to add a distant museum or another shop just to fill every hour.
Budget and Practical Tips
Build your budget from four separate items: public transport, meals, purchases and the optional tour. Check the tour price for your actual date and group size; shopping costs are entirely up to you.
Keep purchases easy to carry, and check luggage rules before bringing bags into a tour vehicle. For the evening version, confirm how you will get from the drop-off point back to your accommodation.
Ask before taking photographs inside shops or photographing people at close range. Follow local instructions and give vehicle owners space.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enjoy Tokyo’s JDM scene without driving?
Yes. This plan focuses on shops you can visit independently, with an optional passenger tour. Choose a passenger option rather than a self-drive product.
Is the entire itinerary by public transport?
The independent shopping day is. The optional Daikoku extension uses a tour vehicle.
What if my tour already includes A PIT?
Skip the morning A PIT visit and start around Harajuku. Keep a separate visit only if you want more shopping time than the tour provides.
What about rain?
The shops offer indoor browsing, but you still need to travel between them. Check your tour’s weather policy separately; do not assume rain automatically means cancellation or a refund.
Can someone who is not a car enthusiast enjoy the day?
Leave time for lunch, cafés and general shopping around Harajuku, and keep the evening tour optional. Shorter shop visits can make the day easier to share.
Plan Your Day Around the Experience You Want
Use our suggested route to plan your own shopping day. If you want to add Daikoku, compare the independently operated tours on GetYourGuide and book one separately if its schedule suits you. Check opening hours and the operator’s booking details, and leave time to enjoy each stop.
